I was interviewed by Mona, the founder of Women United Artist Movement and I was at ease by the natural way our conversation flowed. Mona has built an impressive platform for women artists, and I applaud the work that she has done and continues to do to promote and advance our work worldwide. Representation and partnership truly matter. Working with one another advances our work. Mona helped me feel that my work is being recognized beyond the screen in my studio, and that the impact I hope that I am making is building a foundation that is worth more than the sales of my work, but is instilling hope within others.
I re-listened to the recording of the podcast that we recorded together. With slight hesitation. I am one of those people who doesn’t like the sound of my own voice. I have been asked and encouraged to start my own podcast. I’m not sure that I will do that, though I love to research, and if you know me, I am a talker. However, when first released, I wasn’t sure that I had done so well when speaking with Mona. Perhaps with time, and reflection, I recognize, like looking back at older pieces of artwork, that maybe I didn’t do so badly.
If you listen to this, I hope that you find something in it that resonates with you. It is 38 minutes long. We discuss motherhood, artwork, the balance of life and the decision to adopt. How I lived and worked in Port au Prince, Haiti, and how an artist can utilize their work to benefit non-profit organizations. We also discussed the release of my book, A Nation Crafted by Immigration, a creation inspired by incredible friendship and a will to share the stories of people who have built this country.
