Leading Lady Clara Lemlich Shavelson was a Ukrainian-American Activist, an International Ladies Garment Worker\u2019s Union Leader, the founder of the Progressive Women\u2019s Councils, and she is considered to be the leader of the Uprise of 20,000, a massive strike that took place in the garment district in New York City shortly before the tragedy known as the historic Triangle Shirtwaist Fire.<\/p>\n
